Yeah, the weather's still real odd all over, but the `darlin buds of May` still insist upon breaking ground and peeking forward to a luscious summer, as are all of us I'm sure! March was an absolutely Huge month for new releases, lots of slaamin' dancefloor and underground fodder for me to immerse my listeners in tidal waves of sonic electronic bliss.
The T.Y.M.E. Project continues to attract lotz attention for it's `no-holds-barred-let-em-rip' programming, if it's electronic and good, we'll play it - and now, we are Very excited to announce our participation with Netcast Communication Corporations, a new VHQ Internet audio Multi-casting network. This new technology offers a superior sound quality and reliability that surpasses other audio providers capabilities! The Dj L3 on Netcast program will be divided into 3 one-hour shows per week, each focusing on a different aspect/face of electronic music. From Ambient and Experimental, to Progressive and Jungle and Techno/Hardcore...we'll cover it all for the entire World to hear, enjoy and Dance! We anticipate start-up in approximately 2 weeks....we'll issue a Press Release with all the info you need to connect!
Harder, Faster, Deeper
Well, the concert/festival season will soon be upon us... and it
will give us our first indication whether or not the summer of `97 will
truly be the breakthrough for `electronica,' setting the die for the Music
Industry with a capital `M,' or whether electronics-focused music will
just be a passing fancy for the mainstream... either way, the deep sounds
of da underground will continue to set the tone for what the future of
modern dance music holds, and we'll keep reportin' on the cutting edge,
whether it's coming from the chill hinterlands of Rotterdam, the far-eastern
islands of Japan, or directly from the Corporate offices of Industry Row.
Where is the Scene Going? (A RANT)
A music industry marketing maven was telling me the other day that
he was having a problem with the `electronica types' cause many of them
were Dj's and he didn't consider them `musicians.' Well, considering that
a musician is one who plays an instrument, a singer plays their voice,
a folk musician plays their guitar and a techno musician/Dj plays their
303 (heck, can anyone really argue that all Djs are organic synthesisers?).......I
say it's all the same, and, many dj's have extensive musical backgrounds...he
opined further that they didn't understand the performing aspect of marketing
themselves.... Well, to be fair, this has been an underground scene...
I've lost count of how many times I've shown up for a party with Dj's and
performers flown in from around the world, only to have the party shut
down by some `friendly' local authorities that just didn't understand what
the heck a bunch of kids would want to gather for the entire night and
dance for, without any booze or fights... And also consider the art of
making technology based music...the myriad of machinations required to
produce some tracks just belie any thought of performing it live, people
know they look silly if all they're doing is standing there pressing play
on a dat machine... But it is a performance, after all, so check out the
Chemical Bros...watch how much they're actually playing versus bobbing
and bouncing around a lot hitting that baad ass bass kick on the way...yeah,
so they know `how to act', versus some of the more stoic artists...wot's
the answer? New ways of having the performer interact with the audience
will be found.....................and now as the trend continues to grow
stronger for `raves' to be held in clubs, well, that's an option for many
people to experience this music in a place where they feel kinda comfortable,
on their own turf... That's cool, but I have just one request, PLEASE encourage
the club owner/manager to NOT TURN OFF THE WATER IN THE BATHROOMS.....They
do this to make money selling water - sometimes at ridiculous prices -
but people are getting dehydrated and this IS VERY DANGEROUS, especially
now that it's ummer season...please, if you are running a tour, a promotion
in a club or are a promoter, look at what the UK has gone through, where
they now have a campaign for drinking water to be available in the clubs.
Ok, that's my rant. Thanx fer listenin' :-)
Now, Back to the Music!
Thanks to Progressive High for sending me some slammin' strong releases
that really run a gamut of styles. I especially liked Syunji Moriwaki's
`Lunatic' (all tracks!), the L.A. Williams presents, Boy Wunder Level 16
`Lovely', Ralphie Dee's Bioxin `Aurora' (saw this one being recommended
recently), and `Night Kalimba' by MDP. Those went real well with PC music's
NRSHA `La Light' and Marad records `Alright' by Reid Piazza.........all
have big thumpin' quality club sounds and a good vibe.
I'm also really excited about the Pierre Henry re-releases and Re-mixes, Check it out!
