WHAT'S GOIN' ON?
This newsletter contains lots of cool info on things going on both
underground and elsewhere that have somethin' to do with electronic music
........all kinds! Three monthly playlists are included and are
compiled from rekkids and cd's played on 'These Technotic Times'
(a/k/a 'The TYME Project') on WTSR 91.3fm (CNJ) Sunday nights 9pm-12mn,
Dj L3's play out gigs, and RealAudio sets and programs created for Technotica/Music.

READY, SET, GO!!!
Oh September...back to school -or- back to work... it seems like
the real start of the year! Welp, I got my 'Iron Balls' (you know, those
Oriental ones that chime when you roll them in your palm to marshall brain
power and focus...) in my right hand and my mouse in the other...so off
we go.........!
A COSMIC CONVERGENCE OF EXISTENTIAL ENERGY
Here in Techno Town it's that time of the year when night and day
are the same length, as the Sun crosses the celestial equator moving southward
(in the northern hemisphere). It's the autumnal equinox, when daylight
and night are precisely the same, and the creative energies are held in
balance.... which way will they go, and what musical delights does the
Fall hold for us all? Perhaps it helps explain the tumultuous and palpable
feeling of energy that's been building all around the past few weeks.
>>>For more equinox related info, check out the following web sites:

SAVE ME A PIECE OF CAKE!
Happy One Year B-Day to Fabulous Future Frontier!!!! What a label,
and all the stuff put out under the Paradiso guise is being gobbled up
toot-sweet by the hungry hoards of tech heads 'cause, well, plain and simple,
they keep it hard and underground a/k/a it's got a good beat and you can
dance to it!
AMSTERDANCE
Hey! Is anyone out there going to the Amsterdam Dance Event October
15-18?! I highly recommend that you do, if you can, 'cause it's gonna be
Phat Deluxe! You know the night-life is gonna be slammin, and it looks
like the panels are gonna be worth checkin in on. I especially like that
there will be Territory Focus Meetings, where the ins and outs of various
global dance markets will be laid out, including discussions on Distribution,
A&R, emerging trends, chart systems, publishers, local talent and radio
and print media. Participants will also be able to play their music for
the panelists and hear their opinions.
Go to their web site to find out more of what's in store - http://www.amsterdam-dance.nl/ Oh, yeah, and if you have any extra room in your suitcase, I'm tall , but fairly limber and nimble, so I just may fit! Hee Hee!
OMAR OH MY!
Dammit Omar! You've done it again, done gone and made me mention
you 2 months in a row :) Well, respect is due....Phone calls pour in when
I drop the latest Santana man's bomb 'Hard Hop Heathen/Hard Hop Rebop'
on Tricked Out...it's the 'Hard Hop Ree Bop-Hard Hop Mix' cut that gets
them every time!
And speaking of Santanas, Carlos Santana is being inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame along with fellow funksters Earth Wind & Fire! Cool!
S's IN THE NEWS
'Strange' sounds from SATAMILE RECORDS (NYC)? Not so strange actually,
but comfortable and complicated tracks that take you on a journey through
the seminal past and into the electronic vistas of the future...
PULSATING RHYTHMS
There's this guy from Vienna, Austria named PATRICK PULSINGER. What
about it you ask? Well, aside from the fact that this man makes some of
the most insane techno going (and the vivid memory of his live PA at the
legendary Truth party in Brooklyn, NY nearly 2 years ago is still with
me!) and that he also does some tres hip n quirky stuff via the CHEAP label,
so I knew he could get down, I was still blown away by 2 recent remixes
he's done - KEN ISHII's 'CIRCULAR MOTION' on R&S, and FOREST MIGHTY
BLACKs 'TIDES' on COMPOST. Hmmm, hey Patrick, I may even forgive you for
that 'Porno' insert booklet. Check his stuff out, but strap down yer brain
first!
HEADIN' EAST...
Welcome to the Easty Coast to Rick Salzer, formerly with Hardkiss
in San Fran, now with the Under Cover Music Group NY!
And speaking of New York, Rob & I made our merry way into the Big A-P for the Cream tour at Twilo with Doc Martin and Carl Cox. Thanks to our Early Warning Network, we knew to be there early and to be sure and get a Legal parking space. Well, we later heard that the line stretched for Blocks, and was the longest ever for Twilo, which explains the extreme overcrowding inside, but doesn't explain why the Cream promoter raised the price to Everybody by $5...'Why is the price more?" I asked, to be answered with, "it's the Cream tour'...uh, ok, right. Shady dealings and short-sighted strategy fellas... NYC clubgoers have a long, long memory. Anyway the music was good, and the Doc n Mr. Cox most excellent as always, totally rockin the place out and making everybody scream, and, of course the sound system at Twilo is without a doubt one of the best in the world...
TOUR TALES
Ooh, I hate to jump on bandwagons, but here I go with the 'Girl
Power' thing, seeing as how the Lilith Fair flowered whilst others faded
and wilted in the Summer sun. But remember, your gender doesn't really
matter when it comes to gettin' down to good music, whoever is supplying
it!
So, tell me, what's gonna happen now as far as these 'Electronica Tours' go? Have any lessons been learned? There's been lots of mixed reports from the shows that did come off... Let us know what you think the future holds for 'Electronica' in general!
SCHMOOZIN' AT THE SHORE
The DJ Times International DJ Expo in Atlantic City was all that!
An amazing crowd assembled for 4 days and nights of panels, workshops,
exhibits and parties! Funniest thing was at the exhibit floor, where the
'Quiet Room' was seperated from the 'Loud Room.' Wow, talk about separate
worlds! The loud side was where it was at, it was dim in there so you could
check out the lighting displays better, and there were Dj's spinning everywhere...I
kept breaking out moves on the showroom floor! Hey, I've heard lots of
controversy over Glenn Fricia... Well, he rocked it. He passed my test...he
made me dance, and tempted me to do a bit of trainspotting along the way
as well!
CMJ... IS THAT ALL THERE IS?
The CMJ was interesting for sure....The opening night party was
like a commercial rave, and there were electronic artists playing at several
venues, but where were the discussion panels on dance music and/or electronic
music? Very odd indeed.
TRENDS!!! GETCHER' TRENDS HERE!!!
So far, 1997 has been "The year of the Big, Bad, Bangin Club tune."
New York remains remix capital of the world with it's mighty line-up of
talent.....Hey, I really like Jason Nevins remix of Run D.M.C's 'It's Like
That', it always makes me smile... Yeah, I'm silly, so?!
The kids in the mall like progressive house and the college-aged seemed more tech-house focused....pockets of deep house scattered with large bursts of hardcore and hard trance and a slower but strong pulse of psychedelic trance... Pure bangin techno, well, there's lots of fans, and the phones light up when I'm laying it on thick on the show -- as long as it's not too repetitive, has some movement and interest, and a slammin kickdrum! I'll tell you what, it is really incredible the number of phone calls the radio show is getting so far this semester, and the callers all say they love the music and are so very happy to hear it on the radio -- a lot of them have no idea even what it is called, and are always asking me so many wonderful questions! It's great!
LOUNGE-LIKE
The NEW 'Beautiful Music?' Check out a domestic release by CONVEXTION
called 'Niche' on Matrix. Also, Carl Craig's 'More Songs of Food and Revolutionary
Art' and 'The Seductive Sounds of Technotika' (Gary Martin/Gi Gi Galaxy)
on Eye Q Music.....Oh man, yeah, Eye Q is putting out some very nice tunage,
I remain sweet on HG's 'Isolees.' Well, this is the kind of stuff we at
Technotica have dubbed 'Lounge-Like,' and it's sure picking up business
for me... Yo, it's funny, stylistically, the type of 'gatherings' I'm doing
recently are split between hardcore and trip hop/lounge! Holy jeeze, is
that psychotic or what?!
SPOOKY SCHTUFF
Oh yeah, Halloween is coming up real fast, and if you need a new
and exciting scary CD to add to your growing collection (I even have a
few shaped like haunted houses and pumpkins!), here's another ...'Vampire
Themes' on the Cleopatra label...This one's got the goods with 13 tunes
like 'Sympathy for the Devil' by the Electric Hellfire Club, and 'Bela
Lugosi's Dead' by Bauhaus! The technotica.com/music site has a 'Tapestry
of Terror' Real Audio mix that was made for last year's festivities, you
can check it out to get in the mood... and a new Halloween mix treat will
be appearing real soon =:-O
Technotica.com will now be producing and 'airing' the Internet broadcast shows, A.T.M., Head-Set and Bassment Beats. Archives of the previous Netcast shows will also be available along with their playlists.
AND, IF YOU HAVE OR KNOW OF A LIVE INTERNET BROADCAST OF INTEREST TO THE TECHNOTIC COMMUNITY - PLEASE POST THE INFORMATION ON THE TECHTIME CALENDAR AT http://www.technotica.com/techtime
